What To Look For

When it comes to your first job, remember to keep your salary expectation reasonable. At the same time be aware of aspects that go beyond your salary. Things to keep in mind include:

  • Benefits packages – How good are the perks?
    • Health coverage
    • Vacation and health leave
    • Matching 401k contributions
  • Opportunities for advancement – Can you see yourself here five years from now?
  • Lifestyle – Does this job have a 9-to-5 culture or is it a round-the-clock operation?
  • Skills and Expereince – What skill and experience will you gain?

The most important thing to remember isn’t to get a job at any cost, it’s to get the right job. Interviewing is a mutual process. Even if they offer you the job, if you don’t think it’s a good fit, you might be better served either walking away or taking the job as you continue to look.
